WiFi gratis para los vecinos de Portland, en Oregon
No se si habrá por aqui algun vecino de Portland, pero llegan buenas noticias para esa localidad, y para el panorama de las redes de internet libres (estilo FON, por ejemplo): Se va a ofrecer internet a través de WiFi gratis en la ciudad de Portland, en el estado de Oregon, en Estados Unidos.
La noticia ya ha sido confirmada oficialmente a través de una nota de prensa por el propio ayuntamiento de Portland, y de esta forma se unen a otras ciudades como San Francisco o Philadelphia, las cuales ya poseen una red de internet gratuita para sus habitantes.
Los costes de instalación y uso de la red se pagarán a partir de banners de publicidad comercial local mientras se navega, pero también existirá la posibilidad de contratar una red libre de publicidad por unos 20 dólares al mes.
Sin duda una gran noticia. Todavía nos restan unos cuantos años luz para que podamos leer algo como esto en España.

yo en verano voi a un pueblo de Teruel(menos de 100 habitantes) que dispones de lo que llaman internet rural que es una antena en el tejado del Ayuntamiento i da cobertura a todo el pueblo por WiFi solo tienes que registrarte i te dan unas 5 oras diarias pero tiene capado el emule i semejante. aparte en una habitacion del ayuntamiento hay unos ordenadores especiales destinados a eso.. quien me entienda bien i sino pos... www.res.es

¿Y por donde decis que ponen la publicidad? ¿Por toda la ciudad? ¿En TU navegador? Porque si yo me conecto con linux a esa red wifi para entrar a internet ya me podeis decir como voy a ver yo esa supuesta publicidad...
Esto es como lo que hace Google en San Francisco. Dependiendo de tu posición, te envían banners con la publicidad de los negocios cercanos. Y si no quieres publicidad, tienes la opción de pagarlo.
Me parecen mejores iniciativas que las de FON, por ejemplo.

pues en mi ciudad en, bucaramanga colombia, que tiene 1.000.000 millon de habitantes ya disponemos de este servicio gratis,es la segunda ciudad en america latina que cuenta con este servicio, la recepcion es perfecta en la mayoria de la ciudad incluyendo las zonas residenciales, con una velocidad de 200k a 300k. me imagino que dentro de un tiempo la telefonica hara lo mismo que en esas otras ciudades, agregando publicidad o tarifas. me parece que es una mezcla entre wifi y un pre-wimax. les dejo la pagina de la telefonica ">http://www.telebucaramanga.com.co/
